Sidebar of “Jimmy Buffett to Spotify: Give recording artists a raise” by Russ Mitchell
Spotify, an online music service, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, that allows users to stream audio and video music files on demand, will put fans closer to the music and artists they love. The Spotify office in stationed in Los Angeles is now looking to hire people who are familiar with the site for postions in engineering, corporate roles, and sales, according to Spotify beta users.
Spotify’s platform will provide a marketplace for live events, premium downloads, and other additional products.
Editor in Chief of Rodeo Magazine Daniel Bjork said,“For me Spotify is the modern way of consuming music. The debate is about downloading but it’s just another distribution alternative. A service like Spotify challenges the idea that you should own music at all.” Spotify monetizes licensed competition from other music sharing websites through advertising and combats piracy by purchasing the rights to every song and video they have available to Spotify subscribers.
